Several Iranian students at the University of Maryland are frozen with grief for family and friends living in their home country amid the Iran War.
Students are overwhelmed with emotions as Operation Epic Fury, the Trump administration’s military campaign, escalates into its fourth week.
The operation commenced when U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran early Feb. 28. In the weeks following the strikes, Iran has responded with missile attacks on Israeli, the U.S. and allied targets across the region. Since the start of the war, people living in the country have had to adapt to airstrikes and regime violence, such as internet blackouts and surveillance.

The Iran War’s influence on gas prices could have long-term consequences on commuters at the University of Maryland.
Since the start of the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran last month, gas prices have risen to an average of $4 per gallon in Maryland as of Sunday, according to AAA. This contrasts with prices nearly a month ago, when the cost was roughly $3 per gallon.
Rising oil prices cause this increase in gas prices. Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Roughly a fifth of the world’s oil flows through this waterway, according to The Hill.

University of Maryland’s president, Darryll J. Pines, notified the school’s community of an active investigation into an alleged antisemitic hate crime in an email on Monday.
Pines condemned the alleged hate crime within the email, referring to an image posted on a social media application that “targets a Jewish member of our community.” The image has since been deleted.
“On behalf of the university, I would like to stress that we strongly condemn antisemitism and all acts of hate,” Pines said in the email
