Maryland triumphs over Wisconsin to gain their sixth-consecutive win
Maryland women’s basketball team continued their winning streak this season in a dominating fashion. The Lady Terps won their sixth-consecutive game by a 27-point margin against the Wisconsin Badgers, 70-43.
Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese says when the Terps share the ball, they play their best basketball.
“We share the basketball extremely well, I thought that was a different combination today with the different lineups we had in there,'' said Frese.
Wisconsin’s graduate guard Katie Nelson started off the game with a free throw thanks to a malfunctioning light from the backboard on Maryland's court.
However, the Terps were able to respond quickly by shooting 52.9% from the field to take a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
“We’ve had adversity all year,” said sophomore guard Angel Reese when addressing the reaction to the early foul, “we played Maryland basketball … we did what we had to do.”
By halftime, graduate forward Chloe Bibby scored 11 points for her team and junior guard Diamond Miller led the team’s assists with 4. For Wisconsin, sophomore guard Brooke Schramek led the team in points with 10 and was tied with her teammate, junior guard Julie Popisilova, at 2 assists.
The Badgers offense, however, struggled against the Maryland defense throughout the whole game as the Terps gained 27 points from the Badgers’ turnovers.
Maryland was able to make a 6-0 run for the final minutes of the game, with 70-43 as the final score.
Reese finished the game with 19 points, leading the team in scoring, and 9 rebounds. Bibby finished with 5 steals.
The Terps travel to Iowa City, Iowa next Monday to face off against the University of Iowa Hawkeyes.
