Kid Cudi declares “I deserve peace,” after checking into rehab

Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi informed fans via Facebook on Oct. 4 that he is checking into rehab for depression and suicidal thoughts. The rapper, known for hits like “Day ‘n’ Nite” and “Pursuit of Happiness,” admitted he was “ashamed to be a leader and hero to so many while…living a lie.”
Mescudi also wrote about his struggles with depression throughout his life and the effects it’s had on his mental health. “Idk what peace feels like. Idk how to relax,” wrote Cudi. “My anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it. I cant make new friends because of it. I dont trust anyone because of it and Im tired of being held back in my life.”
Cudi has discussed the state of his mental health before in late April in an interview with Billboard.com . “People don’t know how real it was. I used drugs to try to fix my depression. It’s funny.” He also spoke about his struggle balancing his life in the midst of the public eye. “I thought about how much of a struggle it has been the past eight years, to be in the news and pretend to be happy when, really, I was living a nightmare.”
Cudi’s recent post has created an outpour of support form celebrities and fans. Several have expressed their love and comfort in tweets and posts for Cudi’s bravery and hope for well-being.
He has also sparked the conversation of mental health in black males with the hashtag #YouGoodMan on Twitter.
In spite of Cudi’s hiatus he promised the release of his new album, “Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’” later this month.
Side note: Mental health is not an easy topic to talk about, but it is also important to make sure you are taking care of yourself and getting help if you are experiencing signs of depression.
