Drake’s Pusha T Diss Shakes the Hip- Hop World
By Lexi Russell
For the celebration of Drake’s 30th birthday, he dropped a brand new show on OVOSound radio on Apple Music. He announced that he would be releasing a mixtape closer to the holidays, but he gave his listeners a quick taste of what is to come. The 6God dropped three new songs entitled, “Fake Love,” “Sneakin” featuring 21 Savage, and the controversial “Two Birds, One Stone.”
Apparently, in “Two Birds, One Stone” Drake is taking shots at rappers Pusha T and Kid Cudi’s mental health issues. Drake and Pusha T have had slight beef throughout the years, but it has never gotten as direct as this. Everyone beefs nowadays, whether for publicity or an actual argument, it seems as if trigger fingers are turning into Twitter fingers all over the rap industry.
It seems awfully suspicious and insightful that Kanye is a listed writer, composer, and producer on the diss track, especially since Kanye and Pusha are both heavily involved in Kanye’s creative agency, Donda. Does this mean Drake and Kanye are teaming up? We will definitely see, maybe there will be an album collaboration in the near future.
On the track, Drake gets bold and takes direct shots at Kid Cudi and Pusha throughout the song’s rhythmic lyrics. There are even lines in the song saying “My numbers out of this world, No wonder they got me feeling so alienated, You were the man on the moon, Now you just go through your phases, Life of the angry and famous.” The even more insulting line is “You stay xann’d and perk’d up, So when reality set in, you don’t gotta face it.” Yikes.
Many people have analyzed the beef and have said that lyrically Drake would not stand a chance against an actual battle against Pusha T. Staffers from Complex magazine state that, “…if Drake wants to effectively diss Pusha, criticizing a backward gaze doesn’t seem like the best plan of attack.” Since Drake has recently been engaging in verbal arguments with several rappers, he must not care about having friends in the industry. Has he reached Kanye level? We will find out, but hopefully this song put the ongoing arguments to rest.
